More Teachers and Students Trained as Jamaica Moves Ambassadors

Ms. Charmin McKoy, Regional Health Promotion and Education Officer, says the Ministry of Health’s Jamaica Moves Initiative has trained additional primary-school students and teachers from Kingston and St. Andrew as ‘ambassadors’.

Nine primary schools from Kingston and St. Andrew were trained at a two-day workshop in Kingston at the St. Peter and Paul Preparatory School on October 13-14, 2022

“We engaged them (teachers and students) in sessions about proper nutrition, physical activity and non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Our nutritionists also showed our students and teams how to make healthy snacks and taught them about proper nutrition and the food groups,” Ms. McKoy says,

She also emphasised that the training would enable the teachers and students to spread the word of healthy living among their peers.

The next training for the parish of St. Catherine and St. Thomas will take place next year.

Mr. Robert Donaldson, Regional Physical Activity Specialist, SERHA educates students and teachers about the importance of physical activity. He also engaged the students into participating in a exercise session during the training camp on October 12-13, 2022
