KINGSTON, Jamaica. Thursday, July 4, 2024: The Ministry of Health & Wellness has been advised of three cases of carbon monoxide poisoning related to the use of generators and wishes to remind the public of the follow precautions to take to avoid same:
Do not use them indoors or in enclosed areas.
Keep generators in a dry area. Water will damage generators as well as produce an ELECTRICAL HAZARD.
The generator should be kept at a safe distance from structures because
of engine heat.
AVOID using appliances that have a heating element, for example toaster
or hair dyer.
Select the outlet that uses the correct voltage, as some generators have the ability to produce 115/120 volts or 220 volts.
