Offering Condolences and Addressing Alleged Negligence of 18-year-old at STH

Kingston, Jamaica. Friday. January 10, 2025 - The Management of Spanish Town Hospital

(STH) wishes to address the report on Prime-Time News TVJ on January 9, 2025, regarding

the passing of an 18-year-old under our care. We express our deepest condolences to the

family of the deceased. We acknowledge the immense grief that this loss has caused to the

family, and our thoughts are with them during this incredibly difficult time.

We recognize that the circumstances surrounding this case have raised serious concerns and

questions about the care provided. The safety and well-being of our patients are of utmost

importance to us, and we take all such matters very seriously.

While the investigation is still ongoing, we can confirm that a meeting was held with the

mother in December 2024 to discuss her concerns and provide initial support. We remain

dedicated to fully understanding what transpired and to ensuring that every possible step is

taken to address the situation in a fair and timely manner. However, it is important to note

that the investigation has not yet been concluded, and the matter remains unresolved. The

final report will be submitted to the Regional Office at the South East Regional Health

Authority (SERHA), and the Ministry of Health and Wellness for their action.

We would like to reassure the public and the family of the deceased that STH is committed to upholding the highest standards of care.

Once again, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the family during this sorrowful time. We remain committed to maintaining open lines of communication as we proceed with our

internal review.
