Social Media Picture of Babies in Chairs at Linstead Hospital is Fake

Updated: Aug 29

Tuesday, August 27, 2024: The South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) is advising the public that a video and pictures circulating on social media about new born babies sleeping on chairs at the Linstead Hospital are false.

The picture is closely cropped but suggests that the image was captured on a hospital ward.

The picture bears a caption, “this is the state of our health system under prosperity...utter shame…newborn babies in chairs at Linstead Hospital. A government led by the JLP Andrew Holness and Tufton as the Minister of Health. We must vote them out.” But in a swift response on X, Minister Tufton dismissed the image as fake.

The Linstead Hospital does not offer maternity services. The services currently offered at the Linstead Hospital are the Accident and Emergency Care, medical care, laboratory and x-ray, physiotherapy and pharmacy. It is to be noted that the image in question was from a hospital in Kampala, Uganda in August, 2019.

SERHA is urging the public to stop disseminating misleading information about its institutions.
