The South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) is preparing to join the Ministry of Health and Wellness to commemorate Caribbean Wellness Day (CWD) 2019, under the theme, “Healthy Ageing Starts Now”
Acting Regional Health Promotion Officer, SERHA, Charmin McKoy, said that the Kingston and St. Andrew Health Services has partnered with the National Council for Senior Citizens to mark that day.
Celebrated on the second Saturday of September since 2008 by the CARICOM Heads of Summit on Chronic Diseases in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, CWD aims to educate the public about the effects of the major non-communicable diseases, its impact on the Caribbean region and to encourage residents to develop good health practices.
The activities for the week will be staged across the parishes, on the days specified free of cost:

- Thomas Health Department from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

- Catherine Health Department from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The ageing population will benefit from activities such as food demonstration and sampling, screenings, presentations on Non-Communicable Diseases, dental and mental assessments. Senior Citizens will also be engaged in age-appropriate activities such as aerobics, dancing and jogging.
