The New Food Handler's Permit Project

Procedure for obtaining a Food Handlers' Permit

  1. Fill out an application form at your local Health Department and pay the fee of $500 ($300 for students).
  2. Your picture will be taken by the Customer Service Representative. You will be asked to present a valid Passport, Driver's License or National Id.
  3. You will be given a receipt and an appointment date when you should return to the Health Department.
  4. On the date given, you will attend a training session where you will be taught food handling practices, personal hygiene and disease prevention.
  5. You will then be given a simple test.
  6. Upon passing the test and medical, you will be informed when to collect your "ID Style" Food Handlers' Permit.
  7. Examination of the applicants.
  8. A Food Handlers' Permit is valid for one year from the date issued and must be renewed every year. Permit renewal follows the same procedure as the initial application.
